The Transformation: How The Little Building Company Got Organized
Dave Conroy has been in construction since 2007 and founded The Little Building Company in Peterborough, Ontario, in 2015. What started with decks, docks, pergolas and saunas for cottage properties has grown into renovations, additions, and this year, the company’s first full cottage build. Alongside Kristen Miles, who runs office admin and client communications, Dave switched to Billdr from a competing platform. Here’s what changed.
Before Billdr
- Hard to tell where projects stood. Picking up a project mid-stream meant digging to find the stage and the last client contact.
- Data that didn’t add up. Numbers entered in the old software didn’t sync properly to QuickBooks, leaving reconciliations that wouldn’t match.
- A long QuickBooks checklist of manual fixes caused by poor communication between systems.
- Frustration in the office. In Kristen’s words, there were tears over reconciliations that wouldn’t balance.
- Client confusion and complaints about the previous software’s client experience.
- Four full-time office seats needed to keep the back end running.
After Billdr
- Instant project visibility. Anyone can jump in and see “exactly where we’re at and what stage we’re at.”
- Every lead tracked. In a high-traffic location, the team filters leads, responds quickly, and knows where every client stands.
- Fast initial estimates that get the team and customer on the same page early.
- Clean QuickBooks sync that’s “running perfectly, smoothly,” with no hiccups.
- “Zero complaints so far” from clients, who find the platform easy to use.
- Three people now do the work of four, and the fourth is back on site managing projects.
Why The Little Building Company Loves Billdr
Dave and Kristen point to four areas where Billdr made the biggest difference.
1. A Leaner, More Productive Back Office
“We went from four pretty permanent chairs in the office to three. So, three people are now able to do the work that four people were doing beforehand. And so, that’s massive. … We’re more productive on the back end than we ever have been, thanks to Billdr and the AI tools specifically, and also its ability to integrate with our existing AI stack.”
2. “No More Tears in the Office”
“Since we’ve switched to Billdr from our previous software, I can honestly say there are no more tears in the office. I used to get so frustrated … why isn’t the data that we’ve inputted into this old software communicating over properly to QuickBooks. And with Billdr, there is none of that.”

3. Support That Feels Personal
“The support has been amazing. Not only is it just built into a chat right there on the software, but I can email, text, call Quinn anytime, and he’s always super fast to help out. … I often think that we’re the only client Billdr has because of the attention and care they give us.”
4. A Team That Listens
“We have run into things where we’re like, ‘Oh man, it would be sweet if we could do this,’ and you reach out to the team and they’re right there. … It really feels like you’re on the same team. You can tell that they value your opinion, and that means a lot.”

“It’s clean, it’s modern, it’s intuitive.”
“It’s everything that we need. It has all the functionality, and it’s intuitive, simple to use. Our customers can interact with it easily, and that’s key. It just doesn’t need to be anything more than it is.”
